Career Pathways
In our society, students are usually unaware of their true potential. Either they select careers under different influences such as parents (Sarwar & Azmat, 2013), friends and society (Naz, et al., 2014); or start pursuing a specific degree without knowing about their skills, interest, abilities and job opportunities. After investing a lot of money, time and efforts, they receive a degree but not a good job. A successful career is a result of “well-informed” and “well-thought-out” decisions.
The situation of industry is different. Now a days, more employers are actively seeking personalities that fit their company environment in addition to skills and qualifications (Charlton, 2012), and the recent research has also shown that choosing a job to which you are inherently suited – rather than just able to convince the interviewer you are interested in – will make you a happier, more productive employee (ADECCO Group UK & Ireland, 2010).
Careers Pathways is series of monthly interactive sessions for undergraduate and graduate students that allows them to learn about the core skills that are needed to excel in their careers. It also accounts the perspective of future jobs that would be highly in demand after 4 – 5 years and how they can prepare themselves for future job market. Also, a brief idea about how career success can be multifold if their skills and interests get align with different career possibilities
